Resumen

La colestasis intrahepática del embarazo es una entidad frecuente, aunque probablemente subdiagnosticada en nuestro medio debido al desconocimiento de la enfermedad y a la variabilidad de sus manifestaciones clínicas. Se caracteriza principalmente por prurito y elevación de ácidos biliares. Aunque su etiología no se encuentra completamente esclarecida, cada vez existen más teorías sobre los mecanismos implicados en su desarrollo, lo que podría ampliar futuras posibilidades terapéuticas. Su reconocimiento oportuno es fundamental debido al impacto que puede generar sobre el binomio materno-fetal. La presente revisión ofrece un resumen práctico y actualizado de esta entidad, con el propósito de favorecer el diagnóstico temprano, la identificación de los principales diagnósticos diferenciales y la aplicación de estrategias terapéuticas basadas en las guías de manejo más recientes.
